ITB Syndrome
The ITB, or iliotibial band, is a long tendon-like piece of soft tissue that tracks along the outside aspect of the thigh and attaches to the knee. Its purpose is to stabilize the knee, especially with impact activity like running (especially downhill running). The cause of this problem is a rubbing of the band over the knee during certain degrees of motion. Along with impact activity, bone and joint alignment is also a main culprit in predisposing someone to this condition. Successful treatment of this condition includes reconditioning of the muscles via muscle release therapy, stretching techniques specific to involved muscle groups, and alignment of affected bones and joints. Additionally, the use of orthotics or shoe inserts is a consideration. At Green Chiropractic Clinic in San Francisco, Dr. Jacob is the chiropractor with the expertise to properly manage your knee pain and ITB syndrome. If you are experiencing knee pain and are looking for treatment and relief without the use of drugs or surgery, call (415) 82-GREEN today for your consultation.
