Low Back and Pelvic Pain

Pain in the low back and pelvis can stem from a simple muscle strain from lifting a two pound box, to postural changes from pregnancy, or as severe as a tumor. The best and safest approach is to get checked out when pain occurs.

Pain is our bodies way of communicating to us that there is something wrong and that we should avoid doing something. In the case of low back and pelvic pain, that pain typically warns us not to move. Movement of injured tissues doesn't allow for healing, so the body tries to immobilize us with pain and tight muscles so that movement is less of an option.

Most instances of low back and pelvic pain have to do with sprain/strain injuries, where the ligaments and muscles are taxed until they finally give way. The pain with these types of injuries is typically local and does not move into the buttocks, thighs, legs, or feet. More severe cases and injuries involve damage to nerve roots and can be from impingement onto the nerve root from either bone, disc, or more serious origins.

At Green Chiropractic in San Francisco, Dr. Jacob uses an array of tests to determine what the cause of your low back and pelvic pain could be. As important as it is to know exactly what your ailment is, it is also important to rule out what it is not, so that you can be cared for responsibly and efficiently.
