Radiculopathy

Radiculopathy refers to pain, weakness, and numbness that occurs along a predictable pattern that any particular nerve from your spine travels. An example, and the most commonly cited nerve in the leg, is the sciatic nerve. Often called sciatica, pressure on the nerve cause sharp shooting pain, weakness, and numbness in the buttock and the posterior aspect of the leg. Radiculopathy literally means "condition of the root," where the root is the nerve root in your spine.

Radiculopathy can occur as a result of bone position, outgrowths of bone as a result of stress, disc impingement, entrapments, etc. The key to treating a radiculopathy is to not only make sure that the cause of the problem is addressed, but that the surrounding muscles and nerves are stimulated enough so that they do not atrophy, or shrink, while the healing takes place.

At Green Chiropractic in San Francisco, Dr. Jacob has an array of tests to narrow down the cause, treat it, and keep your muscles strong and functioning so that you don't spend weeks to months out of commission. Your quality of life is always our priority at Green Chiropractic Clinic!
