Tenosynovitis
Tenosynovitis, or de Quervain's tenosynovitis, of the wrist refers to pain on the thumb side of the wrist with repetitive gripping and use of the thumb. It is essentially an inflammation and compression of the tendons of the thumb. Pain is quite sharp and local to the joint surrounding the outside aspect of the wrist just under the thumb.Treatment for this ailment can be conservatively approached with muscle release therapies. Immobilization for a long period also tends to help relieve the pain, but a return to the causative factors will inevitably bring the pain back. Extreme cases require referrals for steroid injections or perhaps surgery.
