The Adjustment

What exactly is the adjustment? Simply stated, it is a rapid manual motion delivered by hand onto problem areas of the body, specifically joints of the body. It is the many wonderful therapeutic factors of the adjustment which keep our patients healthy and well.
So how does the adjustment work? The joints of the body are made up of at least two bones wrapped in a joint capsule made of soft tissue and fluid and all tied together with more soft tissue called ligaments and made to move with yet more soft tissue, what we know as muscles. The soft tissue structures can either cause misalignments of the spine or respond to underlying misalignments. The chiropractic adjustment serves three main functions. First, is seeks to align any misalignments that cause pain and malfunction. Second it creates a reflex cycle from the joint to the brain and back to the surrounding muscles of the joint telling the muscles to relax, thus helping avoid causing a reversal of the alignment that is achieved from the adjustment. Finally, the adjustment adds motion to joints where there was a reduction of motion before. This trifecta of care is a tried and true conservative approach that has helped millions of people worldwide increase their quality of life and live pain free with greater strength and mobility.
